How many of us went out and bought I5 and I7 workstations and XEON Servers to run Alpha? What do you get for the added expense? Nothing, because Alpha is a 32 bit single core Executable. You could actually see your wait times increased with a new system if you purchase a slower clock speed, but more cores, CPU. Of course other factors also play a role, such as hard driver and memory speeds. But if Alpha was a true ...more »
I think with more and more people utilizing alpha anywhere's PhoneGap integration, it would definitely be a huge boost to get background refresh plugins added to the list of plugins available. I've attempted to add in plugins I have found on GitHub and other resources but trying to get them to work within my app has been a failure. Having documentation showing how to implement these plugins would also be a huge help ...more »
1. Call a stored procedure with args to build the chart. (It partially works.) 2. Allow the SQL or stored procedure to sort the Chart. (Very hard to sort the chart the way you want it) or have a sorting override. 3. Expose all of the columns in the SP or SQL to put anywhere you want on the chart. 4. Each chart type (single, records, columns) works just a little different. It would be nice if the features were consistent. ...more »
Given the non-wysiwyg nature of the Alpha Anywhere development environment, navigating among related functions in a large project can be complicated and confusing. While working in Microsoft OneNote tagging text elements with hyperlinks, I had an idea - If it were possible to insert "Jump Tags" or links pointing to various line positions in the Alpha Anywhere code editors, navigating a complex project would be a snap. ...more »
Replace DBF tables with SQL to make SQL tables native to Alpha. Currently the user has to dabble with connection strings. With sql (or MySQL or any other sql) Alpha will be viewed as a complete product instead of just a front end or addon to a back end. I know this is a major undertaking but would be good for Alpha.
Desktop Application buttons are predefined and have specific uses. I think they should be standardized to have Bubble Help as the default, which could be turned off if you want to have text or picture and text. I prefer to have just the icons on the buttons and the mouse-over description. Additionally, I would like to see a series of Button Bars, which would put all of the buttons for any category on the page as a group. ...more »
This site sucks big time. Users are good. Put us back where we were or at least re-activate the old one so we can choose where to be.
Most of the people who voted to open this menagerie are much newer to alpha than I and others.
I would like the dialog2 repeating section to scroll horizontally as well so that i can use more fields than would normally fit onto dialog horizontal extent. of course field names would have to scroll as well.
To be able to have a bulk operation add language tags to all items such as field labels and buttons and messages. Times savings would be massive and apps would be able to handle multi language support easily.
I love Alpha and use it mainly for desktop apps. But the removal of three small irritants would make me more productive and much happier. 1. In setting up operations, selecting the transaction table is in a tiny box with 4 tables listed. With over fifty (and in one case over 300) tables, a much bigger box--like selecting the master table/set--would be much easier and faster. We have an entire screen. Why not ...more »
The included CSS styles are okay but, to be honest, most look like they are straight out of the DOS days. I'd like to have some more modern templates included with Alpha.
